About Us

Our nonprofit organization, Healing Steps Foundation rises from the conscious awareness of the need that exists to heal the minds and hearts of those who will be in charge of our future. Healing Steps is a nonprofit organization helping children all around the Miami-Dade area who have been neglected and abused, we offer our help through group sessions and help from professional psychologists. Now more than ever, there is a greater need for action, as the global pandemic has entrapped our children, who used school and extra-curricular activities to escape their abusive households, in those environments. Our CEO, Julio Palomera envisions a world in which all children who are victims of abuse have access to mental health resources that enable them to live full and enriched lives by providing psychological treatment to equip them with the necessary tools to overcome the difficulties they have endured. We aim to empower victims to take control of their lives by improving their mental health and expanding their capacity to cope with past and future trauma. It is our hope the psychological tools they gain will have a lasting impact on their ability to thrive as members of their communities.

Healing Steps is a foundation dedicated to the emotional rehabilitation of children that have suffered any type of abuse. We are committed to supporting victims despite socioeconomic status, immigration status, race, sex, religion or disabilities enabling them to integrate into their familial and societal lives with a boosted self-esteem and confidence.

This foundation was started by Julio Palomera and Alejandra Rodriguez de Palomera. They envisioned to always give back to their community and as quarantine hit, they had some free time on their hands deciding to make their vision a reality. Coming from a country like Mexico they’ve seen and heard all the horrors of child abuse and labor, once faced with the reality that it also happens here in the United States, they knew that it was their job to act and give back to their community. Julio is twenty-five years old heading to medical school next year, he will be saving lives in his future but wanted to get a head start to that right here in his own community.
